Now a question. My gun always has seemed to have a lot of preTravel before you hit that spot just before it fires, after it fires the trigger is nearly all the way back in the trigger guard. The reset is halfway back between the spot and the starting point. Will the kit make the total distance shorter with the reset nearer the point where the gun fires? I measured everything today and marked it on a piece of masking tape so i could compare when I install the new parts.

Last question this time-- will I see improvement if I install an aftermarket guide rod such as a Don's guide rod and what does the new guide rod do?
I didn't pay attention to the reset point. If the trigger breaks sooner (not all the way back to the grip) then it would follow that the reset point would be closer, assuming the reset didn't move forward.

The Don's Guide Rod lets you use different weight springs to change the felt recoil. There's a sub-forum just for the Don's Guide Rod.

You still get the same travel improvement from the PRP kit but with a lighter trigger pull.

It's easier than you think. The hardest part is getting started. If you get lost and need help, feel free to PM me or just post in this thread. Many have done it. Heck, I did it and it was my first time to go beyond a field strip.

How about if I just drive to Fort Worth and drop my gun off. After I go eat at Fogo de Chao, I'll come back by and pick it up?

How about you just stop by and install the kit while I watch? You'll be done and on your way in 30 minutes. We can set up a webcam and speaker phone so dreydin can participate from down the street.

Someone posted a link to this guy's videos in another thread. He has one that covers the slide. This video should show you how easy the job really is.

YouTube - Introducing the Springfield XD pistol (part 4)

Bear in mind that he uses different terms for the XD parts. Try not to get confused by that.

propellerhead, thank you very much for your post, pictures and instruction! The kits from Powder River are everything advertised here and provide a great trigger action, a definite upgrade from stock.

Thanks for all your help.

I just installed my powder river trigger overtravel and safety lever. Between sanding and punching out pins I think it took 10 minutes with a little lolly gagging. I took some measurements and what not and have less than .002" of overtravel. So basically I sanded the overtravel stop at exactly the break point

I'm still debating if I want a spring kit now hmmmmmm

What does it mean if your slide won't go on? It goes on, but won't go past the end.

I think that your striker is hitting the safety lever. If you give me a call in the AM I will help you out
