I'm a fan of most polymer pistols. I just find the majority of them out there to be very reliable weapons. Would I carry a Glock? No. Not because I don't feel its reliable, but because I don't like having only internal safeties instead of a manual or a grip safety as an extra precaution. I think my next firearm will be the Taurus 24/7 when I leave this place for good. It's a really nice piece of machinery that I've always wanted to own.

But polymers in my opinion are great and they're made to stand the test of time as long as you give them some modicum of maintenance in between.

That's the only part I agree with. I can strip down my G35 down to bones in about 10 seconds. It is very simple and easy to work on. I think the XD is a superior gun design for a number of reasons, one being that it has the firing pin blocking safety that resets on each slide movement. The XD is more complicated and harder to take apart.

While I enjoyed talking with the guys at the gun shop where I purchasd my XD, I was alittle annoyed at the way they were trying to sway me. The one guy (younger) was really pushing the glock on me. "look how fast I can field strip it" "look at how many holesters we have for it" "look at all the grips and accesories for glocks" blah blah blah.
One of my gunstores actually had a neutral opinion. I asked about a G30 and a XD45ACP and they were like "eh, the Glock looks wider, but is actually shorter" "The XD is bigger but feels better" "They are both damn good guns"

The shop where I actually bought my XD45 was a bit different the owner stated "Glock makes a damn fine gun, I carry one myself, however, they are not for everyone, if you are used to a XD, by all means, get another XD"

XD FTW!

Also, are XD springs "stiffer" than Glocks? The G30 feels kinda weak compared to my XD when racking the slide.

XD's

I have had Glocks and now I am an XD owner. Glocks just have been around for ever and in every movie on the big sreen. As the XD out Glocks the Glock now. I cant wait for the pistol that out XD's the XD. It is all self preference for what feels good and shoots good for you. People like Ford becouse they are Ford and Chevy for chevy's. So through shooting different brands they all offer slight diferences. Even the cheapest built weapons can be deadly reliable. Do check out that test they did on the XD it is interesting..

this is an interesting thread.

i was at my favorite gun store today and i had the 4" XD-9 out on the table as well as the OD green G26 .40...i loved the way both of them felt in my hand...the Glock was a snug fit, but still very comfortable to me, some of the button and switch placement was a little off for my hand. the XD was comfortable and just seem'd like everything was in the perfect place for my large hands, i really like the thumb groove on the frame...fits my hand perfect.

im purchasing my 4" XD-9 on mon dec 10th(on sale that day)...but i have always wanted a Glock since i was a little kid and my next door neighbor let me shoot his...so i am pretty sure i will buy the OD green G26 .40 just because i still like glocks and that G26 just felt good to me. both guns felt really well built and i thought the grip angle of both guns was great, the sights were good too.

i probably didnt add much to this thread, but i thought id share my experience today with both handguns

i have owned both a glock17 and now my xd9 service.

the ONLY thing i like better about a glock, is how fast you can put it back together, pull the slide back twice, and it's ready to go. however, the BS way you have to hold it and hold the slide partially back to actually commence field stripping it, the sh*tty sights (they losten over time in EVERY glock i have ever hield, or used).

fact is, the major reason most biased gunstore owners like glocks / is they have been around a while, there s a bunch of sh*t for them, and they know ALOT about them.

when i went searching for a new handgun, most guns that were pushed at me were glocks, and after explaining that i don't like them after owning one, all i got was pissy attitudes, till i came across Championship Arms (in Kent, WA).

they had a huge selections, and after TALKING WITH them instead of BEING SOLD (this isn't a car sales lot, when i want something i want info, not here buy this) the guns. What really swayed me, is after holding each gun in the 9mm range i was intrested in, the XD felt the best to me right off the bat. I was not pushed to try another handgun, i hield it, i knew i wanted it, and they were awesome about it.

/rant

tl;dr version. glock17 = ok / xd9 serive = outstanding
