the one thing that has stopped me from an XD
I have looked at XDs long and hard since they came out and the one thing that for some reason I can't get over is the guide rod sticks out about 1/8 of an inch or more out of the pistol. Why is that? I asked the gun counter folks and of course I got answer from designed by aliens to it was requested by a special forces contract, lol.

Remember Jon Dillinger... jammed his gun into the side of someone and "click click", then turned and aimed at a car driving by and "bang bang". The slide being 1/8" out of wack will not allow it to fire. Having the extended guide rod prevents this.

All correct... otherwise, if pressed up against an object the slide could move slightly out of battery and thus won't fire. Basically designed that way on purpose. Now... go enjoy the new XD you're about to buy.

Many of us replace the stock guide rod with a stainless Don's Guide Rod anyway.

Ahhhhhh
Learned something new today. I did end up putting dons rod in. So i guess by doing that I have increased my chance of going out of battery. But then again the stock guide rods caused probs for some.
