xd9 sc and xd 45 recoil assy pitting problems ?
Or Normal ?
I have a new xd9 sc and while cleaning it, I noticed what at first appeared to be a pit in the disc the fits into the barrel slot(chamber end). I see this also in the 2nd pic on the xd45 assy at http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49533 At first I thought it was not on my xd45 but now I see it is indeed on that recoil assy end too. Additionally, I see that the guide rod seems to be breaking away slightly from the end on the 45 model. There is definately some space around the outside of where the rod meets the surface of the end cap, again, on the chamber end. I am posting two pics which show this somewhat poorly due to me not being much of a phototgrapher I guess. Please advise ! Safe to continue to use or need to be replaced ? ![]() |

My stock XD9 guide rod has a small hole in the center on the breech-end as well. That guide rod only has a couple hundred rounds through it, so I assume it's normal and that the hole was there from the beginning.
Anyway what I did is I replaced my stock guide rod with a DGR, for aesthetics and peace of mind, and I've been happy with it. |

On the factory dual spring assembly they thread on the cap and then weld, then grind it smooth again. The problem that I see is that they are cautious on the weld so as to not add heat the the spring and loose the temper, and then they get poor penetration. When they grind it flat they remove almost all of the weld. The "pit" can be normal, but if there is a full circle of break showing it may (or may not) fail.
All of my factory rods show this to some extent and none have failed. |
