Slingshoting will work on whatever semi-auto pistol you pick-up. No wasting valuable seconds looking for the danged "release".
Or couldn't you just load the magazine and just press the slide release/stop and save a few seconds rather then using your off hand to pull back the slide?

Does anyone know where i can get a Slide release/ stop extension?

The point being if you pick up something other than an XD and avoid having a "where is the slide stop" moment.

Carry without chambered round

Hey folks,
I'm new to this and a new XD owner. I've read the manual and it seems clear, but is it possible to carry my XD45 with a magazine inserted without chambering a round? Thanks.

Thanks. How is it done? I know the safetys are in place, but I thought that it could be carried without chambering.

It can. As long as you're not overloading your mags, you should be fine. It's probably just tight. Give it a good slap with your hand and it should click right in place.

As for the slide release lever, my understanding is that it is in place for when you can't use your offhand to rack the slide for some reason... or to reduce loading time in a real fight. Personally, I find that if I drop a mag and keep the gun pointed on the target, I can insert a fresh mag and drop the slide using the lever while still keeping my gun lined up with the target. If I had to manipulate the slide though, it would take a little longer to reacquire the target. I'm sure that could be mitigated with enough practice, though.

I think I remember in the manual the proper way is to lock the slide back, insert the new mag, then release the slide. I've tried it with a full mag & the slide already forward & it makes inserting the mag difficult. Also you have to make sure if you rack the slide yourself you don't ease it forward at all. the slide could not go to full battery.

I personally own several pistols of various manufacturers and will almost always rack the slide to load up. Reasoning stems from my training. If you routinely load your pistol by "tap" (read fully seating) your mag and then "rack" (racking the slide) you will do that with out issue when you are flustered. The type 1 stoppage clearance is a "tap" "rack" get back in the fight. So every loading of your firearm is practicing a type 1 malfunction clearance which clears most issues and you will be able to do it if you really need to. When I first started shooting IDPA I had a malfunction and I cleared that pistol like it was second nature because "you do not rise to the occasion but default to your training". Same methodology goes for my loading. If I am on the line for IDPA I will do a Tac reload sequence to load up. So every time I load I am practicing how it needs to be done in a smooth manner. This way I will do it right under stress.

I totally agree, it is so much better to get in the habit of doing tap and rack especialy if you are using your gun for law enforcement work.
