They just offered to refinish it? Is there some code word I need to use?

No, my XD had the old finish when I sent it out there for jamming and it just came back with a brand new finish on it. Very nice.

I put mine away after a range session & didn't get it out again for a couple of weeks. I was really surprised to see light surface rust all over the slide. nothing else had a problem, just the outside of the slide. Rubbed it down with some Kroil & looks like it is taken care of. we'll see. May be sending it back to SA if it becomes a recurring issue.

When did Springfield start putting the coating on all new guns? Looks like my .40 is 2 years old, so do I have a ruster or not?

If it has not rusted yet you are fine. None of my pre-melonite XDs or HS2Ks have rusted, but I do live in a dry climate. But even those in nasty areas are hit and miss on rust issues. I have used silicone wipes on all of my pistols so I can't be sure if that is what helped or if other conditions ruled. But if you have not had rusting issues from day one then figure you will not in the future.

I didn't see any rust and there is a light coat of oil on everything that needs it. I keep it in a room with a dehumidifier too, though it is cased. I wiped the metal on the slide on the outside with a silicone cloth.

But all this rust talk got me worried.
