Recoil Spring Assembly Promblem

I recently purchased an XD 40 compact. I noticed the recoil spring assembly sticks out like 1/8" or 3/16" out past the end of gun. Is this normal. It seems it should be flush.

It's normal... Some people think its for if you have to do a contact shot on a bad guy it'll keep the slide from coming out of battery because the end of the recoil assembly will be pressing against him instead of the slide...

If you don't like the looks of it you can get one of Dons Guide Rods from pistolgear.com they look pretty nice and sit flush with the end of the frame

The Don's Guide Rod for the .40 is for the Service/4" and Tactical/5", but not the Sub/3".
