XD in Race Set Up

hello people -

New to the XD world but have been shooting the pistol for a while now (belongd to my b-n-law) and I must say that it's a truly impressive pistol. Now for what I'm looking for... did a search but came up nothing.

Is there anyone out there with an XD setup'd for IPSC shooting "open" division? I would like to get some ideas in terms of what mounts, modified barrels etc. are available out there. I'm pretty familiar with trigger jobs and my b-n-law is very good with his drill press and his dremel tools. He can and has ported slides in the past with very good results.

Thanks in advance for the directions and looking forward on learning a lot from you guys.

Not many people shoot Open with an xd... its not very competitive because of the capacity issues... Best bet would be limited 10... or MAYBE limited if you really wanted to... But I wouldn't go open unless you just really wanted to...

Novak's Handgunner Outlet can help you if you really want to try it. Like Sloopy said Magazine capacity will be an issue. If you want your will be better off using you gun in a Steel match where capacity isn't as much of an issue.

Oh yeah and you won't make Major Power Factor with an 9 major XD. Bad idea. Open XDs should be reserved for Steel Guns.

Now I agree that an XD-9 is probably not the best choice for Open but I bet using 147grain bullets you could make Major and not blow the gun up, you will likely be above SAAMI spec for 9mm. Might wear it out earlier than minor loads but if you can make Major with and IMM gun with ports as close as 1 inch infront of the chamber I have not doubt you can make major with and XD-9.

If the Glock can make major then the XD damn sure can. It has bigger frame rails and a heavier locking block.

I didn't see where Snake Eyes was inquiring about an XD-9 specifically. I think he just was talking XD (no caliber).
The most I have coaxed out of my XD-9 Tactical (5 inch barrel) is PF145 avg. with Bullseye 3.3 grains, 147gr. LFN Precision bullet. Loading up to max with Bullseye would probably give you in the neighborhood of PF 150-152 est.
My thought is if you want Major, start with the XD-40 Tactical. Having said that I don't own one so I have no data on loads.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

If your going to shoot Major Open then 9mm is basically the only way to be competitive. If you bump up to 40S&W then your capacity drops enough to no longer be competitive and with the additional capacity limitations the XD-40 suffers you might as well shoot with your foot in a bucket than try Open with and XD-40. The XD-40 doesn't even make a competitive Limited gun let alone Open.

You can have 9x19mm make Major but to do so you will be at pressures well above what SAAMI specifies for the 9x19mm cartridge. There are a lot of shooters out there shooting 9x19mm Major in USPSA. If your serious about working up a 9x19mm Major load I would suggest going over to Brian Enos' forum and ask around they will get you to Major without a Kaboom.

Arredondo now makes high-cap base pads for the XD 40. I can't remember what it brings the capacity up to, but it has got to be better than 12 rds! I saw one of them in a Custom XD-40 Tactical, and was very impressed with the gun and the magazines.

I recently had the pleasure of handling a few XD's that came out of the Springfield Armory Custom Shop and I was very impressed. I was impressed enough to by an XD-9 Tactical that I plan to have customized by SA for USPSA Production Division. I love my Glock-35, but I was tired of getting the pants beat of me in Limited class but those hi-cap 1911 shooters. I will speak to a Springfield rep soon, but I don't know what the turn-around time of the Custom Shop is.
