Break In Period
Each make of weapon has issues that are unique to that make or model that can quickly be resolved with a good break in procedure. For someone who is totally new to the XD line, what are the issues that will be there right out of the box and what is the best procedures to use to properly break in this new weapon???
Thank you for your help. |

Yeah, this gun is a great shooter right out of the box. I had some initial problems with mine a few months after I first got it, but it also didn't come with the now standard melanite finish or any of the other cool XD gear that comes with all the weapons now. In retrospect I just had a bad experience at first but after I sent it to springfield and they shaved down the feed ramp and put the new finish on the slide itself, I haven't had one hiccup and I've fired over 700 rounds through it since.
Just keep it cleaned and lubed and you'll be fine. |

Clean and lubed for sure. I am at about 1250 rounds now, I shoot like a madman at the range I might add, but I have had no issues what so ever. I usually clean mine after every second trip to the range since I usually go Sat. and then Sun. early morning.
I do though have an ex cop buddy who has put over 2500 rounds through his and hasn't cleaned it once, still running like a well oiled machine. Don't ask me why he hasn't cleaned it other than its just his have a fun time at the range gun. |

You should clean and lubricate ALL new firearms...that includes used, but new to you firearms as well.
I bought a Marlin Model 60 about 10 years ago, brand new still sealed in the factory box, that hand SAND in the action and between the reciever and stock. I bought a NEW Remington 700 and found metal shavings in the action and barrel. You don't want anything like that screwing up your accuracy or parts by cycling/firing the weapon with those types of things obstructing. Otherwise, enjoy it. It's rare to a NIB XD will have any real issues. |

Yeah, the only "Break In" the xd has is that over time the trigger gets a little smoother...
Other than that most companies that say theyre pistol needs 1,000 rounds or whatever to "Break In"... those shouldn't be 1000 rounds of Malfunctions... The gun should FUNCTION out of the box...

I think the only non-polymer handguns that need breaking in are 1911's. It's just standard. With XD's, M&P's, Glocks, etc. shouldn't need any break-in. Just go to the range, keep your slide slick, and have fun.

After 300 rounds i noticed things smoothed out alittle at 700ish the gun literally changed in my hand, trigger improvement slide cycled like it was soaked in butter etc. etc.. I wouldnt call this broke in because I never had a malfunction (that was the guns fault, too light of a gamer load for idpa). Lets call it, the gun "settled in" after 700 rounds.
