Unfortunatley the 9c is the one I'm considering as is the OP. 20% polled on the mp-pistol forum reported the problem... I wouldn't exactly consider those good odds. Who knows how many non-internet gun forum owners are having the problem also.

I agree with everything you said except this. I have a brunial finish and a melonite finish (treatment, whatever) and the melonite is fine. No rust despite periods of heavy use, poor cleaning habits at time, and long storage with no humidity control. I think the rust issue may be a bit overstated and possibly more of a problem with the old finish.

I've heard the bore-axis issue before, tho, and tend to agree that the XD, at least in 40, can have a bit of flip that takes a little practice to control.

I adore my XD's. There's no comparison for me.

I'd have to agree there. We got CCH in our state back in January. Been carrying my .45 most every day since.
I also shoot IDPA matches 4-6 times a month, so I'm drawing the gun quite a bit. I started out using a kydex paddle from Comp-Tac and now carry and shoot from a Crossbreed.
My melonite looks good as new.

I don't find any bore axis "issues" with my gun either.
Buying my 6th XD tomorrow...

I have handled and shot an M&P 9mm and found it to be a well made and accurate firearm. My friend owns one and after the range we went to his house to clean our weapons. My XD comes apart with no tools for regular cleaning. What I didn't like about the M&P...well what I thought was quirky was you had to remove a tool from the grip to release an item inside the mag well to release the frame.

Other then that I liked it a lot and really liked the lower slide profile over my XD....but I still wouldn't trade....

Might add an M&P someday though.

I sold all of my XD's to buy M&P's if that tells you anything. They handle and shoot better for me and it's easy as cake to a do a great trigger job on them. S&W will also sell you any internal parts you need no questions asked in my experience. they're both great pistols, but I favor the M&P.

I own an M&P45, very accurate and mild recoil for a 45, but it's a full sized. Have shot my friend's 45 Tactical XD, liked it, so I ordered a 9mm Tactical. M&P and XD both great pistols, so, which ever one feels best to you....go for it.

IMO, the M&P .40 has lightest felt recoil of any .40 I have ever shot. That said, I don't own one nor do plan to. When I thought about getting a .40, I layed down until the feeling passed then got up and bought a 10mm instead. To me the 10mm is a .40 with an attitude.

After careful consideration and handling the M&P and XD9 sub-compact I chose the XD9 Since then I’ve taken it to the range four times and I'm REALLY impressed with it! The first time out I simply removed it from the case, loaded it up, and fired away without issue, total rounds fired 150. Since then I've fired an additional 450 rounds without any issues...What a gun!!!

Today's range results; I fired 150 rounds from 5 yards, 7 yards, 10 yards and 15 yards, out of the 150 rounds 143 were in the "A" zone, the other 7 were in the "C" zone. OK, I'm impressed...I like this gun!!!

Kudos to my fellow XD owners...I appreciate the feedback and I'm truly enjoying my purchase
