I'm pretty sure from previous threads about people's springs/guide rods breaking that that is an item that SA will just mail you. Contact them to be sure, but I don't anticipate a problem getting it replaced.

Before replacing any parts yourself, call Springfield and get an RMA/RA. They will reimburse shipping up to $70.00 I believe and fix it and then pay for shipping it back. Make sure you ship from wither the Fedex or UPS hub not one of the outlying offices and declare it a broken firearm. Takes about a couple of weeks to inspect repair and turn it around (maybe less)but it is worth it.

As stated before, the guide rod and spring are not "sensitive" items. SA should ship one to you without you having to send in the gun. Looks like the spring has fatigued and is trying to coil over the guide rod bushing end.

I would email the pictures to the contact lady at SA and I bet they will ship you another guide rod kit.

+1

In the first picture you posted, it even looked as if there is some wear around the guide rod hole on the slide where it has been contacting the slide. I would bet the spring needs replacement--which is just one more reason to go with DGR and spring!!!

The end of my XD9S guide rod sticks out just a little bit, but no spring is showing. But I figured this is normal. Right or wrong, y'all? I've got about 500+ rds thru it so far with no problems.
