V-10 conversion
Hello everyone. I recently bought an XD V-10 9mm pistol and at the time a compensated barrel seemed like a good idea, but lately I've been rethinking the whole thing. After shooting about 50 rounds, the front of the slide gets very dirty, and the front sight is completely invisible. I'm beginning to realize that it's just a dirty, loud gun. Would a drop in barrel without the ports hurt the slide or guide spring? I can't imagine it would, I just wanted some opinions. Also, I have noticed that around each port hole on the barrel, the finish seems to be almost flaking off to what looks like bare steel. Would that be something SA would replace? The pistol has probably fired about 1500 rounds or so. Thanks a lot!

Interesting...I've never had that flaking off problem and I lost count of how many rounds have gone through my V-10 a long time ago. I would ask Springfield about it. I know V-10s had a problem with slides cracking (there's a thread somewhere about this), and Springfield replaced the slides and barrels with non-ported upon request.

The finish "flaking off" is most likely not really the finish but rather carbon/copper/lead from the rounds you've fired. If there really is bare metal there, then it's likely that the particles that flash out of the holes are, in effect, sand blasting the area and are stripping the black off it it.
AS for putting an unported bbl in, no worries. Many folks have done it.
