My XD9 doesn't eject with no mag.
I was at the range with some friends, we were all most out of ammo so we were loading one bullet at a time. I noticed that my friends' Hi Power 9mm and Taurus 9mm shot fine, but my XD-9 wouldn't. Half the time the spent brass would get caught in the slide on the way out. Other than that the gun seems perfect. It even shoots more accurate.
I called Springfield, they said, basically, don't do that. I'm wondering if this is normal behavior for an XD or if this is a sign of something wrong with the gun. Thanks. |

The extractor doesn't engage properly when you drop a round in the chamber manually.
Don't do it. your gun is fine.

I would take heed of what they say.
Sometimes when you fire an auto pistol without a magazine, strange things might happen.

If your dropping the slide on chambered round it will damage the extractor.

Load a semi-auto from the magazine ONLY!

When the XD extracts the brass rides ontop of the mag/next round in mag before it hits the ejector. If there is no magazine in there the round has a tendencey to fall before it hits the ejector or be ejected awkwardly causing a jam. I've fed a round removed a mag and had the spent case fall out the bottom of the weapon. I've also had it eject normally but its pretty rare for a normall ejection with a removed mag.

Generally, if it's an internal extractor don't do it; if it's an external extractor don't do it often.

I remove the mag and shot the last round all the time, it won't hurt anything, there is just no pressure from the magazine to pop it out the side, they just fall out of the magwell.
As stated wisely above, loading rounds into the chamber should always be done via the magazine, not doing so will cause damge to your extractor. |

just load 1 round into your mag if you want to do that. or you could fill it, fire 1, pop the clip out, put it back in, cock it, then fire again. etc...
