Cross Draw

Guys and gals,
I need a bit of advice. I've worked on my strongside draw for a while now and my time is fairly consistent... Not good, but consistent. Given that I have poor shoulder mobility, I'm considering a switch to cross draw (all from concealment, by the way). I want your input on if you've tried this and if it's worked well for you. Also, what have you heard others say about cross draw from concealment? The switch would be to make my draw less obvious to a BG since, right now, I have to notably lean to the left to draw smoothly. (I'm right handed). So, any input you can provide would be much appreciated.

Joe, the best way to answer your question
is for you to give it a try yourself.

Just move your strongside holster on around
to your 10:00 - 11:00 position, granted it will
not cant correctly, but it should give you a
good indication. If it works, then you can invest
into a good canted cross draw holster.

Personally, I do CCW cross draw on occasion and
it works for me. Another advantage gained from
cross draw, it positions your weapon for accessibility
when you are seated in a driving postion.

Thanks for that little bit of advice. I will try it out ASAP and compare times and such.

I actually prefer the Cross Draw when CCW. I feel I get better control and a more natural movement in the shoulder. The only problem with carrying cross draw is when driving in the car. But then again, most CCW is a little uncomfortable in a car.

Some will argue that the cross draw takes longer to unholster, given the long extension of the elbow back across your body, then trying to acquire your sights and target. However, if it's comfortable and easier for you, then it obviously a better choice than a strong side carry.

If you try it and like it, keep practicing and make sure you clothes conceal well. I actually feel better concealed while carrying cross draw style for some reason.

I don't CC my W (errr.... yeah...) yet, but I'm thinking cross-draw is what I will do.

Especially since I pistol-fire as a South-paw...

Well, I have seen a few reversable holsters, and I may go that route...

Nah.

I've been meaning to get around to putting a mounting bracket in my Cherokee for a CB radio an ex-buddy of mine "donated" to me after he got terminally stupid (or at least, almost terminally for me).

A holster bracket/mounted holster wouldn't be a problem at all. Then again, I spent two hours last week putting a spiral of copper tubing in a box fan, instead of just buying an air conditioner... As soon as I get the water pump hooked up, it should be great.

As for the holster mount, find a hollow point (heh) in your center console, put a couple of screws in (or get REALLY fancy and add backing plates to distribute the load), stretch some material across, slip a holster on it, and bingo!

And actually, a small piece of web-belt might work well for this project. Maybe see if you can get one from depot, if you have one where you are at, or your supply depot/readiness center's throw-away bins.

Failing that, find a buddy that goes off-roading (happens ever out there), and see if he has any cargo straps or anything, maybe a broken piece, since you'll be cutting it up . Those recovery straps can be quite useful, even after they break.
