conversion 9mm to .40 cal

I have the xd-9sc and was wondering if I can swap out my 9mm barrel to make it a .40 cal. I know it can go the other way but is it possible? I know I'm a noob so take it easy on me.

Thanks,

SoupCan

Unfortunately, no. I believe the reason is that the hole in the 9mm slide is too small for a .40 barrel (I don't have my 9mm at the moment to verify though).

No one makes a .40cal to 9mm conversion for the SC pistols anyway, so the good news is, you're not excluded from the SC conversion club (becuase there isn't a club yet!)

The problem is not the hole in the slide for the barrel its the breach face. The breach face on an XD-9 is too narrow for a 40S&W case to get between the slide and the extractor. You can go the other way because the larger breach face of the XD-40 will work with 9mm but due to the wider breach face the XD-40 extractor does not engage 9mm case as fully as it does a 40S&W hence the reason XD-40 conversions to 9mm sometime have extraction problems.

FWIW, I just spoke with Debbie at SA to inquire about installation of a 9mm barrel into a 4" 40 cal frame. I have had them do a trigger job, so I thought the next upgrade would be a barrel. 9mm is cheaper than 40 you know.

She said that they do not do the work since the 9mm will not fully engage the extractor on the breech face. If someone would like to go from 40 cal to 357 SIG, that is not a problem.

I have read numerous accounts of end users buying aftermarket barrrels without too many headaches, so I wonder why SA won't do it. Seems to me they are missing out on a huge market.

On that note, does anyone have any specific, FIRST HAND stories they'd like to share about 40->9 conversion barrels?

I'm looking to get one, myself...

Yes I have the EFK 9mm conversion for my XD40 service. With the conversion I had FTF problems with the last two rounds while running stock XD40 mags. XD9 mags cleared up my FTF problems and the package runs reliable enough to play Steel matchs with. I did have one FTE but that was caused by cheap old stock Wolf ammo lacquer coating gumming up the chamber. It runs flawless on brass cased ammo and its more accurate than my co-workers stock XD9 service.
