Color Slide Jobs
I'm not sure where to put this thread.
Anyways, I'm a big XD fan and have bought another one in 45 Compact. I love it and am looking to start a rather large project on it. I'm going to start with a trigger job, (obviously), and a color job to the slide. This is going to be my baby and I want to do it right the first time so I'm going homework! I've talked with a few members who have had their slides colored, along with some of the internals, but I'd like to hear from the masses. I'm only talking about COLOR jobs on the slide, not replacement jobs in black or chrome/ss jobs. I've got someone who does great work with chrome, but he doesn't do color. I'm going to spend a bit on this project and will be carrying it a LOT, (kinda like people carry photo's of their kids to show off). This means that durability is really priority #1. I would like to find a finish that will not scratch easy or wear off too quickly / easily. So please share your positive and negative experiences with me. If you can post pictures. I do appreciate it! |

I did my slide in Norrell's moly resin in grey-green, it's a bake on finish. Pretty tough no peeling.

Could you have it powder coated? You might have to remove some of the coating for clearance but your color options would be endless...

The frame is colored in a grey textured paint.

Powder coating is a great idea for durability! Anyone know if this can be done on a firearm without issues? I know they bake them really hot for several hours for the powder coat, could that heat harm the frame and externals? |
