XD40 not chambering

So the last couple of times I have gone shooting my gun has been having a pretty serious problem (for a carry pistol) It started off that one round per mag would fail to go into battery fully, kinda angled half in half out, and I'd just rack the slide 1/4 of an inch and let it go and it would chamber....now its doing it almost every other round. I have tried ALL my mags (10) and have had no luck but with ONE mag, where if I load it to 8 or 9 (12 rnd mag) it will USSUALLY function fine. So Im rulling this out as NOT a mag problem. Im thinking its the guide rod spring since I have probably 6-7K through this weapon....but that still doesnt seem right. I have purchased a Dons guide rod with a 20# spring, but havent tested it yet....Im affraid to go out and waste a shooting trip if this doesnt fix it. If any one has had this problem or knows a potential fix I would be much appreciative! thank you
-Brian

springs

The Xd40 is the same thing as XD9 with a bigger bullet.
The stock spring in your 40 is a XD9 spring. The 40 is going to wear it out.
Try the new spring. My friend loves the 22# spring In his XD40.
I just got the 21# kit for mine. I shoot 165 grain bullets.

The spring is the cheapest thing to try, but it might be the extractor.
If it is broke, or has a rough spot, or burr where the case rim slides under the hook, it could be causing the feeding problem.
If it's a burr, or rough spot you could clean it up with a small file, or some fine sandpaper, but if it's broke it will have to go back to Springfield.

Is this a new 40 or an early one?

Aside from that you have one mag that is mostly good, it does sound like maybe a mag issue.

I have this trouble with my reloads... I've tried seating the bullet a little shorter thinking it was the length (though I load to standard 1.125") I tried 1.120" for the last IDPA match and still had this issue and I've tried using a 22# spring. I've given a quick look at the breech face and extractor but nothing looks out of the normal. I tried the same reloads through the SC with the same mags and no problem. I've been trying to figure this out myself. My XD was the first one I purchased, new in '05. Serial, US499xxx

Well at 6-7K through the gun it sounds like it is time for new springs. I also had the same Problem with my early XD40. I had a dry gun though. The gun was not broken in yet. I say install the new spring set and go to town!

Just curious, was this all with the same brand of ammo?

I know that I've had a few reloads not want to fully go into battery because the walls were a tad swollen. I've also had trouble with certain ammo not wanting to fit in a revolver chamber.

Who are you asking? If you were asking me, both. The reloads were what I was having trouble in my XD, but the problems with the revolver came from new ammo. In fact, it was doing it with both revolvers, an SP101 and a GP100.
