XD history question
Gentlemen,
I was curious if anyone knows whether or not if any fullsize 9, 40, 357sig XD's came in to the country any other configuration than the 3rd gen HS2000 with the XD logo? This is particularly important as I am designing an accessory which I want to be compatible with all XDs. Additionally, does anyone have any rough numbers on how many HS's are in the country as well as how many XD's have been imported to date? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

OK, so I answered one of the questions myself: I have found a second generation XD with only one cross slot on the rail and a large "Croatia" stamped on the left side of the side.
Can anyone tell me how common these are, and even better, roughly how many are in the US? Thanks |

Most early members think of generation numbers as applying to HS models and not the Springfield models, so be careful of the info. 3rd gen has rails in my mind, but not two slots in the rail. I have never heard the term 4th gen to describe rail slots so I would be hesitant to use the terms of "generation" to proscribe fit of your product. Design for the current and avoid "generation" statements. Email me and I can help with semantics if you want.

Unfortunately, I can't disclose that until we are closer to completion. It isn't a patent issue or anything. We just have a long developement time and it is best to keep it under wraps to avoid false hopes and false release dates. There are far too many unknowns at this point. I am sure you will hear about it and see it soon enough
Thanks for your understanding. |

The "XD" at the range I go to is really old. The slide has a stamp that says "SA-9 CROATIA", I personally have never seen one before.

Update:
I grabbed up the rare one at the dealer the other day for fit checking. It was manufactured, assembled, or imported Feb '02 (from spring field). You can actually look inside the frame on the older ones and they have a date rose that will show the date the frame was actually molded. This one was molded Dec, '01. I am still waiting for a transition date from Springfield. Unfortunately, the new frames do not have a date rose. Thanks for everyones help. |
