Blowhole tube coming out of my XD?

You know that little "blowhole" between the loaded chamber indicator and the rear sites? Well, there seems to be a tube in there that is split lengthwise in half... when I dryfire (using dummy rounds) one half of that tube pops upwards and out of the gun. Does anyone know the function of this piece and how easy it is to fix? Anyone else had this problem?

That is a roll-pin, and it SHOULD NOT be doing that. I believe that is a component of the firing pin block? I may be wrong.

If only half of it is popping up, then that means that the roll pin is broken. Apparently this is too common. So if you do a search, you might find a thread on it.

Roll pin on slide coming out

Alright, I'll contact SA for a replacement pin. Not only is it coming out, but it's split lengthwise. I'll post pictures of it later.

Something I couldn't figure out is it's function. It seems to run in line with the firing pin. Can someone tell me what it does?

I suppose I'll have to replace it before using my XD at the range.

I would just get one from ACE hardware like Don suggested in post #8 in the link that trace included.

If I didn't find one at ACE I would follow Don's instructions to get him to mail one to me and I'm sure it would get there faster and with less hassle than SA.

As for what it does, it holds the firing pin in the slide. You need to remove it to dissemble the slide. Look at the disassembly instructions on www.xd-hs2000.com

Standing offer: yield to the glory of the WSU Cougars and I'll send you several roll pins. Post "WSU Cougars Rule" and send me your address and I send you the pins.
Otherwise they are 3m x 16mm split pins or roll pins and sometimes you can find them locally.
"Blowhole"...I like that!

"WSU Cougars Rule"

I don't need any blowholes, though.
