You know that little "blowhole" between the loaded chamber indicator and the rear sites? Well, there seems to be a tube in there that is split lengthwise in half... when I dryfire (using dummy rounds) one half of that tube pops upwards and out of the gun. Does anyone know the function of this piece and how easy it is to fix? Anyone else had this problem?
I guess this means the XD is a whale of a gun.

What happens if you fire the gun with the rollpin still tending to stick out? Anyone tried this? How often does it happen and has anyone figured out what may be the reason causing it to stick out?

TIA

Unless it's broken in half nothing much. It happens mostly with guns that have been dry fired repeatedly and have had lots of rounds fired though them. The main thing that causes them to stick out is the roll pin being broken although some just seem to walk out. Putting the pin in a bit further than flush should fix the walk out problem if the pin is still OK.

Mine "walked out" on my new XD9Tac, about half way, every time I fire through one mag. Just replaced it with the pins I got from Pistolgear, which seemed much more sturdy than the factory ones. I had to bend the new ones a bit with pliers, and then pound them in with a rubber mallet. Hopefully didn't screw something up. I'll go find out in about an hour when I go to the range.

Ok. but what's the exact function of that rollpin IF it sticking out and going on vacation outside the slide doesn't stop the gun from operating?

Regarding dry firing, does this implies DF without snap caps or with them as well? I hope not. I mean, I plan practicing with those before hitting the range (want to get the feel for the trigger).
