Well, my crayon melted. I fired about 250 rds through the gun n a time span of 2.5 hours. Lot's of shooting, lots and lots of shooting. Anyways, at about 150 rds i noticed the crayon getting really bright. Didn't think anything of it. Then the next round, i found bright green crayon on my shirt. I inspected, and the crayon was melting pretty good. Let it cool for about 20 minutes before shooting again, but i had to strip it again. I will be redoing it in red "china markers" soon, will post pics after range day.

I'm telling you guys, use the Lacquer Stiks to make it permanent. Crayons are a good way to find a color you like. But they are only made of wax....

I bought 2 lacquer sticks, black and silver. Well the silver didn't ship, so hopefully I'll get a replacement for that.

I applied the black to a chrome slide and it doesn't appear to be permanent. Maybe it's because the chromed slide is really slick like Teflon, I dunno. I cleaned it off with Hoppes 9 before applying. Hopefully I'll have better luck on my other slides.

It's basically the same as a crayon, but you do NOT need to heat anything up. Clean up the slide from oil and residue so the lacquer can stick. Peel the old tough lacquer off the stick so you will be working with fresh 'ink'. Smear it in, push it down, wipe off excess. You're done!

what's the best way?

What's the "BEST" way to do this?
Lacquer stick? (where do you buy one of these?)
Nail Polish? (oh, honey! can I borrow your nail polish?)
Crayola? (melting in the hot summer sun?)

I am leaning toward the nail polish method.
