Umm...
I guess I'm nobody, because I just posted a couple of mine last night.
Anyway, someone sent me a message asking how I applied/cleaned off the Testor's on my gun. Most of it was easy--the lettering, the serial number--but the logo on the top of the slide was a pain, because it's so shallow. Basically, it was just put a drop on the slide, spread it around with a straight edge (I used an old credit card), let it dry a minute or two, and then lightly wipe with a gun cleaning patch (synthetic) that had been moistened with thinner. I wiped until the the paint was gone from where it shouldn't be, which also tended to pull it out of the grooves where it should--but not all of it. I'd let it dry in a warm oven for a while, then I'd repeat. It took a while, and it was a pain the butt, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Now, on my black XD45...I tried to go the quickie route. Basically, I just let a puddle of paint dry over the logo (and all the other areas I wanted to fill). I left in on there for about a week, and then started removing it with a rag wet with paint thinner. The impressions filled in quite nicely, but I got a really bad haze surrounding the lettering and logo. I have tried numerous times to remove it, but I've had no luck so far. I'm now wondering if Melonite is tough enough to stand up to a brass bristle brush... |

Man; the crayon route is so easy, and quick, I would just stick with that. If after a while it starts to melt a bit... no big deal, just spend 20 minutes and redo it. Better than taking a chance on messing up your slide with paint. Just my opinion.

I did it in gold/brass color. Looking great but still have that dull spots around the engraving where I used a q-tip to remove the extra nail polish...small soft strokes. (d..n... sounds sexy... only if my wife knew) It worked great. I heard that gun butter or something like that helps the dull spots turn shinnning again. I'm going to look for that stuff. Get a pic when finished.

Hey, how'd you do that? I tried with Testors and it didn't work so well. I'm open to any pointers a successful user has had with them. Thanks...
