Something broke in my XD
So I went out shooting today, and while I was firing my first mag thru my gun I had the slide fail to load a round all the way into battery....kinda thought that was odd, then I just racked the slide a little and let it go, and the round chambered....fired one or 2 more shots and it happened again!! then I noticed something protruding from the top of the slide, the little roll pin just behind the loaded chamber indicater was sticking up....what it looks like is the pin had split in half, lengthwise. I have never seen anything like this before.....can anyone tell me what I should do? I have read getting parts is next to impossible, and I really dont wanna send my gun off for something so easy to repair my self....any info would be much appreciated, and if any one could explain what this roll pin actually does? didnt seem like it was functional, but it must do something as my gun continued to not want to load rounds in the chamber properly. Thanks for any help

Sounds like the roll pin that holds the striker. You should be able to get a replacement from Springfield. It's the striker retaining pin.

agalindo's photo shows what we think it is. I have a standing offer for these roll pins: you make a post saying "WSU Cougars Rule" and send me your address and I'll send you several pins.
They are M3x16 metric roll pins and sometimes you can find them locally (try an Auto Parts store, I have found them at an Ace Hardware) , and if not they are only a Cougs post away. |

If it has just worked out a bit, poking it back in would be fine. As jeepinbanditrider states the split is part of the design of a roll pin/split pin/spring pin. I would not think that this affects chambering so there may a couple things happening at once confusing what I was reading into it. If the pin seems still in one piece poke it back in as jeepinbanditrider suggests and see what happens!

yea that split is what allows it to compress holding the pin in place
BTW the pin is there to hold the firing pin in place

GO COUGS!!!! You don't need to send me any pins, just thought I'd say it cuz they are in the top 10!!! woo hoo!!! Might be worth taking the slide parts out and investigating for other damage incase something else is broken. |

The pin prevents forward travel on the firing pin. You can pound it out from the bottom of the slide. If it is intact then it is most likely ok and you can just put it back in. Otherwise, just drive over the hill and I'll fix it for you Saturday
