Identifying Age of XD9 Tac

Is there a source, other than e-mailing Springfield, where I can find out what year my XD9 Tactical was made?

Also can anyone tell me what year they stopped supplying XD9s with 15 rd magazines and started issuing them with 16 rd magazines? Mine came with 15 rd mags, but I dont know if it was originally issued with them.

Thanks,

On a similiar note, I have yet to purchase an XD and was wondering how Springfield knows when it was made...I am assuming the serial number right? I have looked at a few XDs in a gun/pawn store and if that is the case I could just copy the serial number down if they let me right?

A second question. Is there any advantage to buying a more recently produced gun (like an 06) versus an older model? Do all newer XDs come with Melonite, or at least a superior finish to the older models?

I picked up my new XD9sc w/ OD green from Gander Mntn in Greensboro, NC this past weekend.

I called the Armory this morning and gave the lady my serial# - she said, "Oooh, yours was made in January 2007 - Oh, and you have the Subcompact in OD green. Nice...and yes, it definitely has the melonite finish."

She made my day.
