Taurus 24/7 9 or XD 9
I know that I am on the XD site, but I need some opinions and from what I have seen most give there honest opinions here. I am looking for a gun for that my wife and I can both take to the range and shoot. I have narrowed my search to a 9mm because of recoil for my wife. Now, I am trying to decide on the XD or the 24/7. Need a little input-pro's and cons?
Thanks- JK |

I haven't bought one yet, but looking at the same gun for the same reasons. However, I have had the oppurtunity to dry fire both the XD and 24/7. I must say that both feel good to the hand, but I have chosen to stick with the XD9 (as soon as funds arrive). Im also waiting to see if they will put the Melonite finish on all their models.
The two main points that swayed me towards the XD was the ambi mag release and the smooth trigger pull. The 24/7 pull was so long that I got tired of squeezing.

Buy the XD 9.....you won't be dissapointed.
I have the XD 9 and love it.....was hitting the 9-ring the first time I shot it at 15 feet. I recently bought a Taurus Millinium Pro Pt 111 9mm for the wife.....she is good with it but I cannot shoot it worth a crap. If I had my way it would get traded for the XD 9 Sub that I wanted in the first place......

Definately dry fire both of them. I love my XD9. But who's to say taurus doesn't make a good gun for the price. Go shoot both of them first. It's the only way to tell.

Why not go for the XD-40? My GF is about 115 lbs soaking wet and she handles the 40 with no trouble. It's a little snappy and not much of a kick. The XD is easy as heck to tear down and clean also. It wasn't my first choice, but I'm glad I have it now.

I've got a Taurus Pro 24/7, I'm fixing to sell it and buy an XD 45. It's a nice gun but the trigger pull is terrible, feels like it is 9yds long. I dry fired a XD 45 this morning, very sweet trigger.

The first thing I would ask you about your wife using the gun is she familair with firearms? In other words does she understand the semi-auto style? Other questions would be has she ever tried to rack a slide to chamber a round? Some women find this hard to do because of hand size & strength and the fact that most wil not carry it with one in the pipe. Now the one that will get me in trouble, if it fails to fire or jams an auto will have to be cleared, in a life or death situation, this takes practice to do it quickly. Some women prefer a subcompact xd to carry in their purse and have no problems whatsoever, some prefer a revolver which IMO never jam. So is the gun for YOU or for HER or for both of you? Please understand that after tomorrow I will let you know how MY wife handles it as I bought her a XD40 ported service 4in. to learn on and that will tell me which way to go from there . Either way the gun will be used by me or her as a carry weapon. Good Luck and welcome to the forum!! Also if you can have her shoot several weapons of semi auto caliber and revolver somewhere to see what she likes.

Try the 24/7 Pro and the XD-9. I love my both of my XDs, but I recently had the opportunity to dry-fire a 24/7 Pro and the trigger was MUCH improved over the old 24/7.
The 24/7 was recently voted the gun of the year by some shooting magazine whose name escapes me at the moment. There must be something to it. |
