Stiff magazine springs

I just got a .40 XD and the stiff mag springs are REALLY hard to compress, especially after about 5 rounds. After 10 rounds I quit as my old thumb and index fingers hurting. I am 70 and going strong and been a shooter for decades. These Springfield mag springs are the stiffest ones in recent memory. They are supposed to be 12 rounds. My question is : Is this normal with the XD mags and who makes a good cheap after market mag for the XD? Any help would REALLY appreciated. Thanks.

Mine were really still also, I've been using a mag speed loader from Pistolgear.com after about 5 months of shooting they have relaxed a little. Pistolgear.com also has XD mags at $20 each, that's a pretty good price from what I've seen.

I bought a speed loader and plan on leaving bullets in the mag to help soften it up some.

Leaving bullets in the mag went soften the springs. The springs need to be cycled. You can do this by hand, however the best way to empty mags in on the range.

I will agree with you on this. At first I thought I was doing something wrong cause I couldn't get all twelve in! Then I ran 50 rounds then reloaded both clips left them for about a week then ran about 70 more through and now I have no problem loading all twelve.

Get the Superthumb on www.pistolgear.com It'll help you wear the springs in.
After a while you won't need it anymore.
