EFK Firedragon Barrel trouble

Just picked up my new barrel (standard XDT-40 not a conversion) from the PO, got home to slide it in and no luck. It looks like it's rubbing against the extractor and the slide by the load indicator. Is this just a case of filing it down or would it be best to have it fitted by a smith? I can't even pull back on the slide to see if it would dry cycle.

You can do it yourself with the use of a very fine emeryboard and some patience. You want to polish the tight spots. This should give you some guidance. Beyond that, you are best to call Frank for some phone support.

Well, out comes the file set tomorrow. The problem is there isn't enough room behind the feed ramp and there's not enough play for the barrel to cycle down properly. I guess I'll just file it down and then polish it after and hope that I don't end up with a cool looking paper weight HAHAHA!

Don't use a file, just the emery board. You don't want to take off too much material. A little bit at a time. Call Frank at EFK for support if you have trouble.

+1 for old school I got the same information from him and called frank and did what he told me and what the docuement told me. Worked good was still having alot of FTE problems sold it to a fellow board member and he put 500 rounds through it with no problems. Just gotta work at it to make it fit your gun properly. I may consider getting another one in the future.

First off I'd just like to say Thanks to OS, he's always the first to answer a question when I have one.

I deceided to file it down, just because the clearances I'd need an emory board wouldn't cut it. Thankfully I found my old machinist files for fine detailing and now it dry cycles nice and smooth like a clean piece of pie Now I'm off to the range to test fire it, I'll let you know how it goes.

Let us know how it works out. Make sure you post a range report with a target. If you get some FTE, that should be seen as normal until the barrel has a chance to work itself in; about 1000 rounds or so.

Good luck!

Well, back from the range and no problems at all. The barrel and slide cycle nice and smooth. No FTF or FTE problems during slow and rapid firing with 100 rounds Winclean 180g. Will do a range report on it this weekend after I get out for some more practice.

Update

Well, after a few shoots and some thinking, I chose to go back to my stock barrel. I did a comparison at the range and found my stock barrel felt better shooting and there was no big difference in grouping. Why mess with a good thing

Just a random thought, but I'd think you filed it down too much. Practically to the point of the stock barrel. Way to go, should have used and emory board. The EFK barrel also has a greater twist rate than the stock barrel and serves to make your bullets higher velocity, not just increase the groupings.
