+1 for every comment so far. The words on my monitor are all blurry - because I am looking at them through watery eyes. What a powerful piece - that I will be sending to a lot of people.

It's so easy to think about the war on a global scale and on a political scale; and yet it is so important to remember it is also on a personal scale. Thank God for the soldiers that protect our nation, our way of life, our families, and my daughters. May they all come back safely.

That was amazingly disheartening, but much needed. It definitely came at an appropriate time of year, too.

Thank you for posting this. I did not make it past the first page without tearing up and was bawling like a baby over the last couple pages.

I lost a friend in Grenada and though he and I were not in the same unit, I managed to hear of his death while I was on patrol on the island. There is such a sorrow over losing a friend, I cannot imagine what it is to lose your son/daughter/husband/wife/father/mother, etc.

I only served one military funeral detail while in the 82nd Airborne and don't recall much other than the attention to detail and the amount of honor that is shown during the ceremony.

Thank you for the grim reminder of what is happening each and every day in our country.

Remember to thank every service person you meet...trust me they will stand tall as you speak to them and they will remember your conversation!

Speechless...................

One of the best tributes I have read in a long time. The only thing I can say is Semper Fi to all my Fellow Marines (Veterans or Active) and Semper Fi to the Navy, Air Force, Army, and the Coast Guard. I will pass this on to everyone in my address book. I also email the writer to say thanks and what great salute that was.

You're better than I. I only could make it to page 7. And that's taken me the last two hours.

It is hard to read. It is sad beyond words. It tears at every fiber of the heart. But it is exactly the opposite of disheartening. It fills me with such pride and gratitude that our brother Marines and their families are willing to take this risk and even endure this ultimate sacrifice. For us.
