Pawnshop Barnett c5 wildcat

Wife wants a crossbow for her birthday. I know, she's awesome. I found a barnett c5 for $285.00. I don't know much about crossbows. The reviews are good, it's in decent shape. I'd get new cables and string. Is that a good deal? Any insight would be awesome. My budget is $300.00. Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a barnett. I watched the hold ack mechanism that keeps the ow cocked SNAP on a bow that my Dad was hunting with... The bolt almost got him in the foot. Of course that was 10 or more years ago, but to this day, I will not even ouch a barnett crossbow. I hunt with a Horton Summit HD 150 with a red dot. Bought it at a pawn shop for 200 out the door. Bow season is a pretty good way off, my advice is bide your time and find a good deal on a Horton. Just my .02 worth!

I got a new one for that much, and its a royal piece of crap.

even using the same arrow for all shots, and having the string marked for a consistent pull, my 15 yard groups are worse than my 100 yard groups with my rifle.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm having a tough time finding something quality in that used price range. She wants to go deer hunting in the fall. Is the jackel any good?
