Best .308 hunting bullets

I am going on my first big game hunt this fall. My question is pretty simple. Whats the best .308 bullet for hunting. I will be buying factory loads. I will be using them on Wyoming mule deer and antelope this fall.

Anything using the Barnes TSX or TTSX bullet, in the weight your rifle shoots best.

just go with anything soft point or hollow point unless you're looking to shoot at some serious distance. If that's your bag, GameKings are pretty darn nice bullets and come in a variety of weights ranging from 165gr hollow points to 200 gr. soft points, and they all feature a low drag boat tail design so you can achieve Match-like accuracy. The 165gr HPs are INCREDIBLY accurate in my 700 Tac. with a 1:12 twist. sub MOA.

I shoot Winchester Ballistic Silver Tips.
I enjoy manipulating mechanical devices which propel small lead projectiles through space at high velocity.

Mule Deer aren't what most people call big game. Anything reasonable out of a 308 should be more than adequate.

Have 2, 308's, Rem 700, & M1a. load my own. I shoot 150, 165 gr. in 700, and 168 gr M1a. I recommend trying different bullets and see what shots the best, for you. 308 is excellent rd for deer,50 yds., to 700 yds. Hornady, Sierra, are the bullets that I shoot.

There's a pretty big difference between mule deer and antelope and depending upon the distances you are likely to encounter you might want different loads for each.

For the muleys I'd look into a GOOD 165-168gr bullet in something like Hornady, Federal, etc...the exact style is going to be a matter of preference. With antelope in mind that may require a 300yd+ shot you might want to step down into the 150gr range for a bit more velocity and flatter trajectory with something like a ballistic tip.

It really comes down to what your rifle likes and the conditions you will encounter and most any reasonable load will suffice but some like to taylor the load for the task at hand. Just make shoot a group or 2 with varying loads to assure proper POI with your scope and to make sure your rifle shoots good groupd with it.

I recommend Barnes Triple Shocks or Tipped Triple Shocks. Barnes loads their own ammo now days. I would purchase their 150 grain load and shoot either species just fine.
