Or am I wrong assuming you're a US citizen? In that case, I guess you would be a Mexican. |

In the end, I feel that gun owners want to be portrayed in a positive light, and not as culturally ignorant or racist. The Brady center and the soccer moms are after your right to own and carry guns, and the least we can do is paint our picture in a positive manner. By posting bigotry and ignorance, we are backpedaling as a gun owning community. I think the Mods here are onboard with this ideaology. |

My dads side of the family is almost all from germany. In fact my great grandparents only spoke german. My grandparents spoke both. I never once heard of us being german growing up. Only American. I'm proud of being of german background (and about a dozen others) but I'm not a german-irish-polish-french/canadian-american.

I think a lot of the animosity towards Hyphenated-Americans is brought on themselves.
First of all, the fact that anyone priveleged enough to live in our country would put another country in front of it is taken as an insult. To wave another country's flag in our face is an insult. To not speak our langauge is an insult. To not obey our laws is an insult. My family has Native American, Mexican, European, and African ancestory. But we all call ourselves AMERICANS, with pride. Also, my family members of Mexican decent are some of the most outspoken against illegal immigration.

Just something to ponder ... I spent many years working for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and several of those years were spent working in central and south Texas. The VA provides health care to over 70,000 Mexican citizens who still live in Mexico and cross over into Texas to receive their health care. These Mexican citizens are entitled to health care from the VA because they all served in the U.S. Armed forces active duty during WW II, the Korean war, and the Vietnam war. They are all proud to be Mexican citizens and proud to have served in the U.S. military.

You have every right to feel proud of your county of origin. I may not agree with it, but that's my right too. I'm not just picking on "Mexicans". I don't like it when folks use hyphenated-American terms to describe themselves either. To me, it a way to divide us, not unite us. Saying you're an American brings us together. My reasoning for thinking this way is simple. Politicians like to use these issues to put a wedge between us. The old divide and conquer. It's easier to control the people when they aren't united. |

Many good points have been pointed out but we're starting to go somewhat off-topic. Point is not to use any type of commonly understood bigot or racist epitaphs on the forums. Now we're nitpicking nomenclatures.
Cheers, Dan
