The rep system started off as a good idea but once they figured out they could pretty much bash another person anonymously it went downhill quick..I had like 47 points whoopdee doo I appreciated them because apparently I do have helpful posts here and there and it was nice to see that visually, but other than that I really didn't care for it.so to those who used it honestly thank you.If you did meet new people in the rep threads thats awsome I'm sure the absence of rep points will not crumble the friendships you made.I haven't been here real long but this is by far the best forum I have ever participated in which is why I keep coming back. Thank you Kermee for an outstanding community with mods who are not power mongers. As soon as my move is complete and I get settled in down in florida I will definately subscribe. And thank you to all the members who make this forum the best even when we disagree on stuff.

Abuses happen, thanks for the info, even if I started ignoring REP a few months ago.

This place is about the people, anyway

I never paid any attention to the rep points anyway. I answered a thread about the whether or not I liked the rep point system that I thought that it was useless and being abused. I got negative rep from that. LOL
Anyone who wants to leave because of the rep points system is no more then I have one thing to say.
BYE!

WOW!!!!

Kermee, I apologize to you for any problems the "Post here..." thread may have caused you. We just view the site now as a place for a bunch of like minded guys to sit and chat in a friendly manner.

As you guys quickly have noticed, the User Reputation System for the board has been disabled. Intended as an experiment for the betterment of user participation on XDTalk, after a few weeks of it being turned on this year, it quickly degenerated into a perverse and divisive tool; thus that is why I have turned it off.

I will tell you right now, that for every "public" post about the discontent in the Reputation System (Yes, I've been quietly following all the "Rep" threads on the board), I received TEN times the amount in personal messages and e-mails about the system. In the end, the experiment did a lot more harm to the community than I expected to do good.

Therefore, the Reputation System will be disabled indefinitely. I thought about bringing back the "Thank You" system for helpful posts, but a lot of you didn't like the system and I have a feeling that system too would be abused in the end.

Also, to the member which requested his/her donation to XDTalk to be refunded due to the fact the reputation system was turned off, I have done so. However, I will not dignify a personal response to your e-mail but will state my position here:

The Post here if you want to increase your post count thread that was started back in August 2006 has existed this long because presently, contrary to the name of the thread itself, it has ended up a "Community Building" thread. If you read through the last several-thousand pages of posts, you will see the majority of posts are not solely "Drive-By" posts or posts in increase ones' post count. Percentage/ratio-wise of the # of posts to issues/reported posts/etc. in this thread is the lowest of any large thread and actually, the "Report Post" has *never* been used on this thread of over 200,000+.

When the Reputation threads, and even NON-reputation threads and just plain PM's & e-mails to me about the Reputation System are being alerted more often then...

1. All of the Political View forum.
2. The (NWS) Girls & Guns thread.

...I have to put my foot down. To equate the Reputation System as being a useful forum resource at this point is absolutely ludicrous and to equate that the removal of the Reputation System must mean an equitable logic of removing the post-count thread is inherently, illogical. There is a reason I haven't shut down the "Rep" threads yet until you guys give me a reason to do so. Anymore violations of the CofC and I will *mass reset* the entire XDTalk Membership base to re-read the CofC and to Accept it before you're allowed to post again.

Thanks.

i do agree that people were using it improper as far as abusing or name calling. anonymously. that is very true. people leave negative then say like your a douche bag or someting with no name. i get it. im not p.oed that its gone so much as the reason it is gone.... i understand that kermee owns the site. that this is not a democracy... i get it. but it still sucks. it was fun. but it is what it is. i will miss it a bit to be honest. we made good friendships and had fun on the rep thread. but i understand why people didnt want it. i just hate cry babies. or whiners. or people that talk a tough talk via the viel of the internet. everyone is a "tough guy" when they look at a computer screen. the truth is that most of the people that talk crap via the net. are big panzie, mom lovers that live at home and have never been in a fight in their lives. unless they count being shoved in a locker. its fine. it is what it is.

my .02

i still love this forum, for the most part great people here. with a ton of knowledge i was upset because something i enjoyed was removed becasue of complaining and trash talking blah blah.

I'm an Admin on another board. We too had to shut down the Rep system due to user abuse.

Thanks Kermee for the 411.

Thanks Kermee for the explanation. I would just like to say that the rep system was just a game to those of us that participated in the rep thread. I don't think that there's one single person on here that took it seriously.
