There are about 7 million zombies in New Jersey! That's a lot of shootin' for just one guy, but I'll manage.

I'm sticking with 00 buck. Probably wouldn't go any lighter than #1 Buck. Then again, a shotgun wouldn't be my first choice for zombies anyway. |

In general - anything that's accurate, low-recoil (you're trying to make rapid, accurate head shots) and with a lot more ammo. Shotguns are effective stoppers but with only 6 or 7 rounds in the tube, another 5 or 6 on the gun, a max of 20 or so in your pockets (or 50 on one of those tacticool bandoliers) and being slow to reload it would be easy to run out of ammo and get overwhelmed by zombies in the open. I'd rather have a CAR-style .223 carbine or a Mini-14, something with a high rate of fire and lots and lots of extra mags, with an XD (and lots and lots of mags) as a secondary weapon. Oh, and a machete. Gotta have one of those.
If you've read World War Z you know the weapons the US government concentrated on making after the apocalypse were .22's and big shovel/battleaxe thingies out of scrapped cars. Doesn't take much to pop a zombie if you're calm and accurate. |

...although the fully-automatic shotgun in this particular game kicks ass:
Endless Zombie Rampage - CrazyMonkeyGames.com I strongly recommend the "Pancor Jackhammer" or the "FN SCAR" as a primary weapon. Although that Desert Eagle with 39 rounds is fun too... |

5.56 mm is the way to go
A pelvic shot will do nothing to stop a zombie, even if the pelvis is completley smashed, rendering the lower extremities useless, the creature will continue to crawl until it's hunger for human flesh is satisfied...
I agree with the above post about 5.56 or .223 being an ideal zombie killing caliber. If you want to get really serious with it all you need is one lower, and two upper receivers. One shorty for close combat and clearing buildings when scrounging for supplies, and a heavy barreled, scoped and if possible, suppressed upper for longer range head shots using some 77 grain LR for use in a defensive position to hold shambling ghouls at bay. 5.56 is more than enough to cause total skull failure at any reasonably forseeable distance that one might be shooting the undead. With a 30 round magazine, reloads will be less frequent, and you can carry a lot of ammo either in a bandoleer, backpack, or use some type of load bearing military gear. The low recoil makes it an easy task to put a controlled pair into a slowly moving, rotten, reanimated corpse brain. I don't know whether or not I'd use a shotgun other than for ballistic breaching, or as a last resort. At close range it would certainly destroy a zombie's brain pan, but at longer ranges it's useless. Even more so if the barrel is cut down for use as a breach gun. Also one must keep in mind that if you explode a zombies brain or insides all over the place, it increases the possibility that you could become infected with the virus, and inadvertantly turn yourself into blood lusting wretched fiend. Certainly if a shotgun is all you have, then you have to use whatever you've got on hand. Class I outbreaks occur all the time. Zombies exist, but the media/and government successfully cover up outbreaks and deny their existance. Stay ready at all times. Sillyrabbit
