Unhappy XD 4" 357SIG Range Report - failure to go into battery...

This is the 1st XD I've purchased, brand new. I own several other guns from Glock, Sig Sauer, HK, Walther. I love 'em all!!

Anyways, I took my XD Service Model in .357 SIG today to the range. Fired 50 rounds of factory ammo through it without a hitch. Accurate and dependable. Then I switched over to some reloads from a well known remanufacturer. Well, that's when the disappointment began. I noticed immediately after the first few rounds, that the slide would not go all the way into battery. The firing pin indicator tipped me off (gotta love that feature). Sometimes, when I pulled the trigger the round fired. Other times, all I got was a "click." Unfortunately, I did not bring my SIG P229 in .357SIG or my HK USP Compact, also in .357SIG for comparison. I understand the XD's barrel is built to tight specs, but I didn't realize it was this tight!!! Any other suggestions?

I had a similar problem with a Kahr MK-9. I ended up sending it in to Kahr for a chamber polishing, and everything worked out after that. I'm going to bring out the HK and Sig next time around. If they have similar problems with the reloads, I'm going back to the ammo manufacturer. If not, back goes the XD to Springfield....

In the manual it states do not use remanufactured ammo. Springfield probably just have their guns built this way, who knows.

I've had some remanufactured ammo not work at all in my XD 357 Sig. I saw a lot of light primer strikes or fail to fire or never fire. If I cycled it through a 2nd time it would usually fire but not all the time.

If it was Georgia arms that may have been the problem

Why you want to bad mouth Georgia Arms? I have shot at least 1000 rnds in 9mm and 500 in 380 of their ammo with zero problems. The stuff works great for me.

My first reloads for my XD.357sig failed to go into battery. They fit in the wilson case gage just fine. I had to machine off .005 from the shell holder so the shoulder could be set back enough to fully chamber them. That was with RCBS dies. I have since bought a set of Hornady dies and tried them with an unaltered shell holder with no problems. The .357sig headspaces on the shoulder. If the shoulder is set back too far that will cause light strikes just as not being set back far enough will cause them to not completely chamber. I think the fitting of the barrel is what can cause a short chamber with this round. If you got a finicky one you may have to reload your own ammo to make sure it functions or stick to factory ammo.

All manufactures require that you do not use reloads or it will void your warranty. It is a liability issue. They feel that reloads could be out of factory parameters the gun was not designed to handle. Even if you do have issues or a kaboom they will accuse you of using reloads anyway. Not that factory ammo doesn't have its faults too. Reloading is a cost saving, educational addition to your shooting but does demand your full attention to detail or things can go wrong.

Im not really bad mouthing it...I used to shot a bunch of .357 sig and had some problems with more than a few rounds in that caliber from them.

That said that they always made it right anytime I had a problem and I have never had a problem with them in any other caliber including rifle rounds. Shot thousands of rounds from them in other calibers without any problem at all.
