Advanced Handgun Course - Point Blank Training
I spent this past Saturday with Christopher Moore at Point Blank Training in Jackson, MO. I was there for the Advanced Handgun Course, which is usually taken in conjunction with the Low-Light Handgun Course and the Tactical Handgun Course. These three courses can be taken in one weekend, I however didn't have the time.
The Advanced class covered combat mindset, failure drills, shooting on the move, the use of cover, shooting from cover, methods of engagement, methods of aim, critical shot placement, reloading, etc. I learned a great deal, and performed the new techniques better than I anticipated. Chris was a great instructor. He treats the coursework in a very professional manner, and keeps it fun at the same time. He is sincerely interested in getting to know and help his students. We had three instructors for our 11 man class, so the student to teacher ratio was incredible. I shot the majority of the class with my XD-9 Service, but took a few runs with my XD-9 SC. Both XDs performed flawlessly and managed to impress a few fellow classmates. There was one other guy there shooting an XD (9mm Service as well), a few Sigs, but the majority of the guys were shooting Springfield 1911s. In the AM the first thing we did was run a 7-15-25-yard 50 round qualification. I somehow managed to shoot a 500/500. (I am surprised too. I can't recommend Chis and Point Blank enough. For any of you guys in MO, Southern IL, Western KY/TN, and northern AR, it is definitely worth a drive to train for the weekend. The prices are fair, and the class sizes are small. It was a great weekend of learning and shooting.

Sounds like a good time! I'm interested in something like that in TX.
