So I took my brand new xd9 tactical to a local IDPA match and noticed it was shooting pretty low. Couldnt figure out why I keep missing the steel plates till someone told me I was shooting just below the circle close to the base, not enough to knock it down. the next stage had a paper target at 7yards and the first string I was obvously shooting low. the next two strings I had to compensate (intensely I might add) by aiming about 6inches higher and sure enough all four shots went in the A ring (two strings @ double tap).
I know I can shoot much better with my other guns and fairly accurate on the target even at 35yards so I pretty much blame it on my new xd. Now note that before the match, I only shot about 50 rounds through her (shot kinda lousy then, but blamed it on the fact that I was in a bit of a hurry and was a little tired then) and exactly 100rounds through the match. Is it too early to do something about it? I wonder if the gun still needs to be 'broken in' before she shoots spot on. Should I call springfield armory about this issue after I confirm it shooting through a bench? would they zero it again seeing as though it should have been zeroed in before they shipped it out? or am i left with having to have a gunsmith replace the sights with adjustable ones? |

XD Shooting low
Mine shot low from the get-go.
Tried applying "KENTUCKY WINDAGE" for about 350 rounds. Finally had the factory sights replaced with adjustable...shoots "dead-on" now. YMMV

what's funny is the manual specifically states the xd was designed for a 6:00 sight picture... if I did this, i'd wind up 8-10in BELOW the target at 10yards! has anyone talked to springfield armory about this issue?

You can run a search on this, but SA has installed the wrong sights on a gun before (including mine). You can either return it to SA, they have very good customer service and they will correct it, or replace the sights (which is what I did). My new TFO sights are dead-on, unlike the factory sights.
I would bench rest the gun first, just to make absolutely sure it's a factory sight issue before contacting SA.

Great.
So I guess I will have to send this gun back to Springfield for proper sighting. It has nonadjustable tritium night sights on it. And I just bought this less than 2 weeks ago. Shot it first time yesterday. All this aside. Is there a recommended warranty shop that this forum uses.

Low-left for right-handed shooters, with any gun, is almost always caused by shooter error (flinching, too much finger on the trigger, etc.) so shoot from sandbags or benchrest before returning the gun.

So I called springfield about this issue and they wanted me to send the pistol back for inspection and re-sighting. I asked how long the turn around would be and they answered 2wks. I had them send me the higher rear sights instead and just have a gunsmith install them. I was hoping these pistols would have been better OOB.
