XD(M) Range Report, 6/19/08
![]() ![]() ![]() This is my XDM. There are many like it, but this one is mine. After a week of dry-firing and point practice, I finally got to shoot it. I was firing Blazer 'Clean Range' ammunition, the provided and required ammo at the indoor range I was at. I don't know the weight. This was my very first target. I fired 16 rds at 7 yards and put them all in the X ring. I then fired 16 rds at 10 yards and put them all in the 9. I moved to 25 yards and my spread opened way up. The one in the 7 ring is still a good defensive shot, but it lowers my 'official LE score' to a 99 (according to the East Texas Police Academy scoring). ![]() This was my 'Rapid fire' game. I fired 32 rds at 10 yards, and I tried to go fast. The low ones were at the end of the first magazine, and I watched myself better on the 2nd magazine. The 3 in the head were because I had 3 left in that box. ![]() This one was a style test. #3 is Right hand, One hand, 16 rds, 7 yards #1 is Left hand, One hand, 9 rds, 7 yards #4 is Two hands, rapid fire, 16 rds, 7 yards #5 is Two hands, rapid fire, (with former practice) 9 rds, 7 yards. This one was essentially 'put the front sight on the target as fast as possible'. It stands as my tribute to the XD's 'pointability' in that I was firing with less effort and more speed than the one on the left. ![]() I also fired an XD45 that day. The recoil seemed very comparable between the two. More than I recall from the time I fired a 1911, but not bad at all. The 'snap' of the .40 compared to the 'push' of the .45 was unnoticeable to me. They both recoiled perfectly normally. No FTF or FTE. I could load all 16 rounds by hand. I did use the loading tool and the mag holder, though. Just to hold down the rolled targets to take pictures. I like the ergonomics, I like the way it fires. I'm definitely having Scott Springer do a carry trigger job on it, though. Overall, I'm very happy. Now I need a leather holster for it..... |

Thanks for the report and really nice job with the photos. I like reading these reports from more experienced shooters than myself. I'm enjoying my all-black XDm as well. 400 rounds of 180gr WWB so far without any failures. Recoil feels comparable to every other 40 cal I've shot (Glock 23, XD service, HK USP, Sig 226). Fits perfectly in a Blackhawk Serpa holster.

Thanks for the report. I came close to purchasing a XD OD 4" 9mm. Someone at my club had a black one but the trigger sucked, sights sucked and it couldn't hold any type of group with either factory or reload ammo. No matter who shot it. He sent it to Springfield for a trigger job, adjustable sights and they replaced it with a match grade barrel. Now it shoots like a dream. But it cost him an extra $300. to get it that way. So when they came out with the XD (M) I saw they put on all the upgrades on it that he payed extra for. I was just hanging around here wait for someone to give a range report on the new XD. Thanks.

Been away for a while, but the new "M" gun has stirred my interest.
Thanks for the great pics and report. Think I'll have to pick one of these up to keep my XD-45 & XD-40SC company.
