Bad Habits

I shot my XD9SC again today. This time I just shot 100 rounds, loading 5 at a time in the magazine. This seemed to help when analyzing my mistakes.

Bad habit 1 is a tendency to completely release the trigger after each firing. Honestly, I didn't even know this was a bad habit until reading a sticky this last week. I worked on breaking that bad habit.

Bad habit 2 is anticipation. Anticipating the recoil had me hitting high left. Why I do this is a mystery to me. The SC recoil is nothing! But I keep wanting to compensate for it. One piece of advice I got off the website this week was to squeeze the trigger 10%, let up, then squeeze 20%, let up, and continue increasing the squeeze incrementally until I was surprised by the shot. I appreciate whoever gave that advice, and sorry I don't recall your name.

I shot my first 40 rounds at 50', then finished the last 60 at 25'. Improvement at 50', with the slower paced shooting/ thinking and correcting my mistakes, and was much more control at 25'.

Many thanks for this great website, the knowledgeable members, and a great handgun that I enjoy shooting more than any other I've ever fired.

Realizing the bad habits is so important. You are on the right track! Worry about the anticipation first and then work on the trigger release.
