XD-40 Sub-Compact
I'm new to this website and I have enjoyed reading all the positive things about Springfield XDs. I do not own a pistol yet, and a friend of mine owns a gun store where I live and suggested the Springfield XD models. That being said... I am a smaller person and he told me that the 3 inch sub compact would be better for me. I was wondering if there is a big difference in the accuracy of the sub compact, and the 4 inch service model.
Thanks |

I use the Tucker Answer myself IWB. It's high dollar. But what it really boils down to is you and what's comfortable for you.

It depends on what you mean by "smaller person." The extra weight of the service size might help if you have trouble with recoil. As far as carry, the sub still feels substantial, basically and inch shorter on length and a shorter grip.
I like my SC9SC. Its small, but it shoots like its big. Within 25 yards I'm as accurate (or inaccurate!) with my 3" XD as a I am with my G17. Past 25 yards the longer barrel will obviously have the advantage. I also find it more manuverable and pointable in tight quarters (easier for me to find the target). I also like the fact that its not a micro pocket pistol, I feels like you have a service gun in your hand. (+1 on the pierce extensions). As far as carry and being a small person, I would go strongside IWB behind the hip. Depending on your size you should be able to comfortably carry the XDSC here. If it still feels too big or bulky try the Kahr PM9 it might fit your frame better. You'll have to decide if you want kydex or leather. There a bunch of good holsters out there with Tucker and Sparks being at the top. I have an inexpensive Don Hume holster and for the price its pretty good. |

Thanks for the help
I like the kydex holsters from seeing a friend of mine, but I wasn't sure how much they scratch the finish off the gun. I do appreciate all of the responses!

Holsters..
I know you people are tired of me asking questions...but I'm NEW! Anyway, I have heard of people using the "inside the pants" holsters, and I didn't know if some of you other readers have had bad experience with them?

Probably all of us. You have to find your own level of comfort with IWB [in the waist band]. While checking out IWB holster sites make sure they offer a money back guaranty. Before you ask your next question here it is.

In my experience it is not about just one holster ... I have several that feel, fit, and conceal different depending on what I am wearing ... The most comfortable and easy to use is a simple Galco leather IWB that I use regularly ... Happy hunting, be safe ... Jake
