XD9 Compact 9mm (always low and to the left)

I was pretty excited to try out this gun but admitedly my first time at the range with the XD was painfully frustrating.

Every shot was in the bottom left of the target. I tried loosening my grip. Finger at different positions on the trigger (tip, pad, knuckle) and I couldn't seem to get the thing to hit the center! (the groupings were pretty nice though LOL)

I've shot plenty of handguns but most have been heavier guns (357 mags, 44 mag, 1911s)

I brought two other guns with me, a S&W .22 and a Kimber .45 1911 and those were dead on.

Is the XD more picky with the grip as it is a much lighter gun? Or could the sites be off? I'll have to see if they have one for rent next time I head to the range so I can compare.

Note, I was eventually able to get a little closer by aiming slightly to the left. for example normal might be: |0|_|0|_|0| I would have to aim |0|__|0||0|

Thanks for any help / advice!

I think this happens with most people, including myself. Give it time, shoot a good 500-1000 rounds through it and see how it's shooting then.

This helps me when I'm not shooting correctly.

Keep practicing. Twice already someone handed me their XD and said they think the sights are off. I shot 3-5 rounds at 7 yards and the holes all touched each other on target. Both times the owner said "ok it's not the sights".

LOL fair enough Propellerhead.

I'm thinking it is me. I'm guessing the heavier guns are more "forgiving" of my poor grip etc

I have the same problem with my groups going to the left. I noticed that I spend to much time focusing and pushing forward too much. I also noticed after awhile my wrist will tend to rotate left. After making a few adjustments here and there my groups got alot better.
