I was referring to frame color as being in black only. The bi-tone and black model will be out the same time. I got really attached to the bi-tone at the preview. I was prepared to pull my credit card out but was denied because the gun is gonna be a demo model.

Jason, thanks for posting up and sharing your experience. How about the triggers on these models? Are they pretty much stock XD's with a long reset and slack in the trigger? And the Barrel? it shows "MATCH" does that mean they are all fitted barrels, or what is "match" about them. Was there any indication there?

Thanks.!

Check out Springfield's website. It states that the M has the shortest trigger reset of any polymer gun.

Any idea why some stores already have the XDM, and others won't until next week?

Does anyone else have concerns about the "Match" barrel in the new
XD-M?

I'm no expert, but from personal experiences, "Match" barrels tend to have tighter tolerances. Tighter tolerances tend to mean a gun that can easily be a bit more picky when it comes to ammo. This wouldn't be as much of a concern in a "Match" gun as it would is a carry weapon.

JohnnyI - you are welcome. The trigger was normal I guess. It must have been at least a decent trigger because after a few magazines the dealers who shoot regularly were getting tight groups with the gun. A lot of it was the shooter but the gun had something to do with it. I am used to my Glock 19 with 5# connector and NY2 trigger spring which equates to a approx trigger pull of 12.5 pounds. I know it wasn't a 1911 single action trigger but it was closer to that than the trigger on my Glock 19, lol. I have shot a few regular XD's but have not paid specific attention to the triggers, just general overall feel which I was not a fan of.

Match barrel can be taken many different ways. I think it is a marketing ploy. On Springfield armory's custom shop work page, a custom Springfield match barrel is $190.00 fitted to a regular XD. A Barsto match barrel is $275.00. A re-fitting of the original barrel is $105.

Based upon the price point of the gun, its an extra marketing angle. Match barrel can just mean that the barrel has slightly tighter tolerances, or the production line takes that extra 10 minutes to fit the barrel to a particular slide, or a few hundred other things I can not think of at this moment. I do not believe that each barrel is fitted like that of the Springfield custom shop though. It would just be too labor intensive or the custom shop is charging too much.

Tripledigitride - Regional distribution, Springfield Armory direct relations, priority distribution channels, some shops have the sales numbers or the networking to be first in line.

We ran through 18 boxes of Winchester USA .40S&W ammo (the stuff thats in 50 round white boxes.) If I knew the caliber of the guns before I went to the preview I would have brought some of my own ammo, Winchester Ranger 155gr. JHP's, Speer Gold Dot 165 and 180 gr., and Speer Lawman training ammo.

The two failures we did have looked like it was a FTF caused by the magazine and was on the black gun. The bi-tone gun ran without a hiccup.

I just wished we had more time shooting the gun. I do not feel comfortable with a gun until the 500 or so round count and a few days of on and off tinkering with it (stripping it, cleaning it, shooting it, evaluating certain parts under a microscope and so forth.) So I can not give you a accurate answer on the "Match" aspect of the barrel and tolerances and issues because I did not have the time nor the ammo for it.

Jason

Yea, SA came out with the EMP but man, I have read about alot of issues it's had. Yea the EMP is small but its heavy,"bulky" not afordable low capacity and nearly close to being a pocket pistol. Pocket pistols are hot right now and will stay that way because we now have the technology to make them fuction the way they should. Take this to the drawing board SA!!
Not meaning to Highjack the discussion, but.... I also read a lot of stories about the XD's and still bought one, same for the EMP. The EMP is the best 9mm I've ever had and my only problems with the XD's is the long trigger pull and re-set.

Any word on the XDm price yet?

I can't recall hearing any complaints about functioning of match barrels in the XD, but perhaps that's because most were bought aftermarket and fitted by a smith and not at the factory.

It's a legitimate concern, for sure.

XDM9202HCSP - Springfield Armory XDM in black is $679.00

XDM9212HCSP - Springfield Armory XDM in bi-tone is $749.00

Those prices are MSRP and they may be the same, higher or lower depending on your market area.

KY has an open buy policy with any non-residents. Meaning, you don't have to live in KY to buy a hand gun but they do have to run the background check. So, for those that live close by here's the latest straight from the largest gun store in KY. Whittaker Guns in Owensboro, KY. Awesome shop!
