First time shooter, new gun report, XD45 compact
XD45 compact bi-tone
Picked up my first gun last Friday, and got a chance to shoot it yesterday. It wasn't a range, it was someone's yard (in the woods, safe environment), so I didn't have an actual measurable target. Shot at cans and jugs, and cardboard with targets drawn on. We went through just over 100 rounds of the WWB ($30 for 100 rounds at Wal-Mart), no failures. Not that I have anything to compare it to, but it felt good to me. The recoil wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I could see why so many people upgrade the sights, they were pretty difficult for me to use, especially when the environment was splotchy sun/shade (very sunny day, no clouds), shooting amongst trees. Not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing, but the trigger sure has a long pull before it fires. I have big hands, but could just fit my pinky on the compact grip, it worked nicely. The 13 round mag with the extension added more than enough grip length. I don't think I'll need any sort of grip enhancement any time soon. My wife, brother, and brother's girlfriend all took a turn on it. None of them had a problem shooting it (very limited experience between all of us), but the girls had a hard time racking the slide. I'm looking forward to taking it to an actual range, with pre-measured distances and a target I can measure my accuracy on. We were also swimming/sunning all afternoon, so it was nice seeing the chicks take shots while in bikinis (with ear/eye protection, of course). I purchased a trigger lock and decent earplugs, next purchase will be a lock box/safe (I bought one, but the key didn't work, got a refund), cleaning supplies, and hopefully some Sure Sights when they become available.

1. Congrats on a fine choice of weapon!
2. To quickly measure distance's of your targets, I use a rule of thumb of about every pace = 3 ft. 3. I think you need to post up some pics of those girls shooting the XD in their bikini's

I'm genuinely sorry I didn't take pics, I even had a camera in the car. Oh, and since I've read about reloading, and/or how people buy spent brass, I even gathered up as much as I could (despite the land owner saying, "don't worry about cleaning that up"). Trying to think ahead!
