What to do incase of a miss fire

I don't know if any one posted this already, so sorry if they did.

What should you do if you have a miss fire at the range. Any info. that you have or what you do will help.

Thanks

1) Keep firearm aimed in safe direction (downrange)
2) Release Magazine
3) Cycle Slide
4) Inspect firearm

in with inspecting firearm make SURE the barrel is clear. Remember rule number one(keep downrange). Good way to check is with a bic pen.

As a RSO, I give this a big +1.

If it's a dual action trigger I'll try it one more time. If it's still a no go I eject it...safely, of course.

Good advice so far but depending on what you meant by misfire.

If only a click with no detonation of any kind, you can
- transition to the TAP RACK BANG tactical drill or
- if your pistol has double action, pull trigger again (the first primer strike may have seating a high primer which now might fire, usually handloads)
- wait a 30 count and follow the field strip procedures above

If ANY pop or a weak detonation, DO NOT go into a tactical TAP RACK BANG as you may have popped a squib round (low/no powder charge) with a bullet still in the barrel. Count to 30 with muzzle down range, in case of a hang fire, then field strip and check bore. If bore clear, see if fouling caused problem etc

Also carefully inspect the misfired casing for clues to malfunction root cause.

happy shooting.

i've heard

it's also a good ides to wait 30 seconds, before opening the breech in dase it's a hangfire.
maybe, that's only rifles, but as is said "couldn't hurt"

Here's a clear and concise video explanation by Clint Smith:

you should WAIT before you do anything keep the gun pointed down range and wait up to 30 seconds. I had a misfire on my 7mm mag i think its called a hangfire where you pull the trigger and nothing happens and a few seconds later it fires. well when it happened to me likily i dadnt pull the bolt back but i did pull the gun off my shoulder by a couple inches and when it fired it slammed back and it SUCKED. im just really glad i didnt extract it that could have been pretty bad
