First Shoot - xd40-SC vs Glock 23

I went down to Rangemasters of Utah (Range Masters of Utah- indoor Shooting range, BUY GUNS, purchase, targets pistol, shotgun, reloading, handguns, firearms, rifle, utah valley shooting range) and wanted to shoot the SA XD-40 4" .40 S&W but they didn't have that one! I wasn't happy. So I had to go for the Sub-Compact 3". These varied from 10 yards to 15 yards.

Here is my first target (XD-40 sub):

It was a lot different from my shooting a Glock 17 9mm for sure. Here was my second target (still xd-40 sub):

As you can tell I brought it into a closer cluster on the right side and even a few head shots. Again, still a lot different from the Glock 17.

Here is the Glock 23 shoot:

I got a lot more center shots here.

I think if I got the 4" in the XD-40 that I would be able to put the shoots closer together. The two things I noticed really between the two were:

1) The slide dropped a lot easier on the Glock 23 then the XD-40 sub. Not sure if the XD just wasn't oiled or cleaned enough (both were rentals).

2) I preferred the handle to the XD-40 to the Glock 23. The finger grooves on the Glocks are nice but the... not sure how to say it... the edged part in between the groves actually hurt the hand this time around.

So there are pros and cons to them. I still have about one and a half months before I buy so going to try to find a place that I can rent the XD-40 4" and try it out.

There is the report and my thoughts.

Not to be mean but that looks like a few shots from a 000 buck shotgun. It doesn't matter what gun you buy just practice using it. The first time shooting my xd -40 service I grouped them in the middle a little right. today I got better the more you shoot the better you get.

Try shooting at 7 yards, slow shots concentrating on your trigger release.

When you decide to shoot the .40 again, let me know. I work in Orem and have an XD-9 Service, and XD-40 Sub-Compact. I also formerly owned an XD-40 Service, which I sold to my best friend who lives in Provo and I regularly have access to. After I run your criminal history, confirm your address, check for warrants, and blood type, I might be able to set you up with a loaner or two.
