First time out with the XD45tac

Had the XD 45 Tactical for a while now, but have had 0 time to go to the range, well last wed's I was off work and decided to give it a whirl, no pics because I was in a rush, but after the crap I shot I think I need to practice before I put up pics lol anyways heres the report

Springfield SA-XD .45 Tactical

Initial impression

The pistol feels great right out of the box, felt natrual in the hands (guess Springfields marketing rings true) I field stripped it numerous times to get a good feel for it, and springfield has made this a breeze, after taking all the natraul saftey precautions (I.E. drop ammo, rack slide 3 times, check chamber visually and put ammo away) you simply lock the slide back, flip the take down lever up and ease the slide forward to rest, then pull the trigger (this is where those saftey precaustions come in handy) and viola, slide comes easily off the frame, guide rod/guide rod spring and barrel follow with no fuss and are easily cleaned.

First round
After getting the pistol back together and loaded up I set a target at the 25 yd mark. It was a 50 yd target so fairly large. I then returned to the bench took a seat, planted my wrists on the provided sand rest and took aim. The sight profile was nice and clear, I took my first shots slowly and carefully so as to test myself as much as the gun (been two years since I have shot a pistol) Groups were all over the place, 6-12 inches (horrid I know) I blame the shooter on this one.

Second round
Got a new target up again at the 25 yd line. Fired with more confidence trying different grips and occasionally free shooting (not resting on the sandbags) Recoil was notable but nowhere near uncomfortable, limp wristed it a few times and didnt have a single failure Groups this time were slightly better averaging 6-8 inches with extreme speads of 12 (possible flyers)

Final opinion
Shooter needs more practice lol. 120 rounds in one half hour and instant addiction to the weapon, cannot wait to get more shooting time in. and hopefully my ghost rings come in soon.

LOL, yeah, my shooting needs more practice as well. Thinking of getting a 9mm to go along with my .45's just so I can shoot cheaper . . . LOL

Fun stuff. At least you admit you didn't do that good. Now it is just a matter of getting to the range more often and improving.
