2nd shoot with the XD (with target pic)

Let me just preface this post and say that this is my first ever handgun owned. I have gone to the range twice thus far, 100 rounds per visit. The pic below is of my second visit.

Shot about 75 or so rounds on this target aiming at various parts at roughly 10-12 yards. I think 2 or 3 mags at the head @ 10 yards, the rest were body shots. Shot open sights at 10 yards, didn't even really sight in...just point-and-shoot. For one clip @ 10 yards I aimed at the seven to the right side. I was suprised I got that close so many times without sighting in...

I think i have the typical new shooter "low to the left" problem with trigger jerking/last second hand squeeze, and am trying to correct it.

Oh ps - was with a SA XD .45 Compact....

Good shooting, I see only a couple complete misses, you will get even better with practice. And welcome from MO!

Lots of ammo and lots of patience. Work on trigger control and sight picture...do some dry firing and it will come together. My XD45c was my first semi auto and first handgun other my .22 revolver.

Give it a few months, you'll surprise yourself.

Looks pretty dang good for your second time out. Dry fire at home whenever you get the chance, it helps a LOT, especially while you are still getting familiar with the gun. (Please triple-check your mags and chamber and remove ALL live ammunition from the room first!)

I'd say those are typical. By the time that you get 50 magazines through that sweet heart, you and she will be begging for more.

If you are practicing for self defense shooting, move up to five, or even, three yards. You may see considerable difference in your point and shoot effectiveness. This is important because over 90% of civilian self defense does, and will, happen within ten feet. Once you have satisfied yourself that your five-yard shots are very effective, you can and should get within arms reach to practice close combat defense.

That's pretty good shooting for your second time. While I love my XD, I don't shoot it quite as well as my Sig 229 SAS and I've only had that 3 months.

good shooting man, hell I still have under 300 rnds through my xd 9mm service cause i just dont have the money to go to the range yet. so as soon as I get a chance I'll be posting my pics. I generally shoot at 7yrds but moving the target to within 10ft is a good Idea to get a better idea of where you will be hitting in most self defense situations. have fun shooting and welcome from Ohio.
