Range Suicide
Okay, this may be a bit strong for some folks, but.....
The range I shoot at has a schedule kinda like this - Weds, Sat (evening), Sun (evening) are our club IPSC days and aren't open to public. Now, Fridays are an open shoot day, public welcome. Mon, Tues, Thursday are pretty much open to members & guests. So, last night I was tired, traffic sucked and I didn't go to the range. Well, I get a text message this morning, "Did you here about the incident at the range?" I figured, as per the norm, one of the bulls got loose and trashed someones car, maybe an ND happened, maybe a ricochet hit the range shack, etc., usual stuff. So I call the buddy of mine and he tells me one of the guest shot himself in the head last night. Everybody was shooting for a few hours, things were wrapping up and the guest was shooting one of the members guns. He is the last one shooting, the member is a few yards behind watching him (just giving him some space) and he goes through a mag, changes, fires two more rounds, turns around, looks at everone and puts the gun to his head and squeezes. WTF!!!! No warnings, no notes, no obvious problems, nothing.....just outta the blue, kills himself.

Sad story. Yet another reason not to loan a gun to a stranger.

That's disturbing.
It's not as disturbing that he shot himself (as sad as that is it's not unheard of for people to rent guns at a range and shoot themself), but it's really disturbing that he turned around and looked at everyone before he murdered himself. I always wonder what's going on in their head that's egging them on to murder themself... Just another confirmation that the end is NIGH!

Bad thing was, this wasn't a stranger to the member. They had been friends for approx 5 years, hung out together, and the guest had been asking to go shooting some time.
Like I said, no warning, no nothing.

Well, the range is closed for at least the next week.
We (members) are having a gathering tonight to go over some stuff and I'm sure to go over some rules and conduct rumor control. I'll have the whole story later on.

I don't know what I'd do if I witnessed that, if it was a buddy of mine. I'd probably just stand there like this

Update
Well, for the most part the original story was correct.
The only thing I found out was that this apparently stemmed from the individual doing poorly in school, which the parents were paying for. I guess that was enough to set him off. Attached is a picture of the location. It's got a bit of blood on the ground and is taped off, but isn't that bad. I'm posting it as a link, so you can choose whether or not to look. LINK
