1st time out with my 45 Tac.
I've had my 45 Tac about a month, but until today I had only put 10 rounds through it. That was all I could do the day I bought it due to the weather. Well, that just wasn't enough, so today I went to Bass pro Shops to use their range. I put about 200 rounds through it; Blazer brass, Magtech 230 FMJ, 4 different reloads I'll mention later, & 6 rounds of Cor-Bon +P 185gr HP. The other 14 Cor-Bon's are for HD, I just wanted to see how they shot.
This is my first handgun, and the first one I've fired since the service in 64. I was mostly interested in getting used to it & checking some handloads, so accuracy wasn't the greatest. I shot at 25ft, and got 10 round groups measuring about 3", almost all a couple inches low & left, so I need to work on trigger pull & grip. I tried 4 handloads I made up - 3 were 230gr FMJ with 4.9, 5.1, and 5.3gr of 231. The 4th was 185gr Hornady XTP's with 6.1gr of 231. The 4.9 loads were really mild; almost no recoil & empties basically just falling out of the pistol. The 5.1's were better, and the 5.3 loads felt about like the Blazer & Mag Tech factory rounds. The 185gr HP's were another matter. I fired one round, and the 2nd didn't feed. The slide stuck about 90% closed & I had a hard time getting it to eject, so I didn't fire any more of them. I'll have to look into why; COL, or what. I seated the bullets to the same COL as the Cor-Bons so I'm not sure what caused the problem. Oh, yeah - I had my wife fire one of the mild 4.9gr loads. She was obviously nervous, limp-wristed the shot, and almost dropped the pistol. The empty did eject, though. What I thought was barley noticeable recoil, she thought was too much. Gonna have to work on that with her! All in all, a good day. Had a ball! |

That sounds like a good time. Your first pistol since '64? Glad to hear you are back into it. The 45 Tac is a great HD gun!

Something I just noticed on the range rule sheet from Bass Pro Shops....
"No ammunition with a velocity over 4,000 fps or 4,500 ft lbs of muzzle energy is allowed" IN A HANDGUN?????? |
