Virgin XD-9 Trip to the range
Just returned from the range where I shot my new XD-9.
Prior to the XD, I shot (and still own) a Beretta 92FS. Prior to THAT I had only shot an Army issue M1911A1. So I went from heavy and loose, to heavy and tight, to light and tight. My firearms have evolved much like the industry, eh? I was well pleased with the performance. 9" or so groups at 7 yards, but my hands are "keyboard jockey" weak...so I'me sure I could improve that with some strength training. No failures, although I was only shooting FMJ, so I'd be surprised at a FtF with that ammo. I bought it with Trijicon night sights, but the range was bright enough that I couldn't see those... I'd like to find somewhere to train up with the night sights... before I actually need 'em. |

Welcome to the forum Doc. I have an XD9 Service and it's been solid for me. Stock sights. I'm also a keyboard and mouse jockey by profession but have done strength training in general for a long time and I'm sure this has helped with a steady grip and lack of fatigue.
I noticed when I first got mine that I was "strangling" the grips on both due to the grip safety. Limp wristing is definitley not good for XDs but I found that when I relaxed a little bit I got steadier and still had no issues with the XDs. Enjoy it here, alot of good info and good people.

Welcome aboard 147Doc! I love, love, LOVE my XD-9 Service. From one professional keyboard jockey to another, keep practicing and dry firing. Those 9" groups will shrink up to 2"-4" in no time.

+1. Love my XD-9 Service, too. And my last trip to the range (3rd with this gun, I think) was the best yet. Tons of bullseyes and very few flyers. This is an easy gun to shoot and control - makes me look like a better shooter than I really am at this point.
