Got a Lot to Work on...

Hello!
Took my wife and my brand new xd-40 service model to the range Saturday. Shot a total of 150 rounds (80 fer me, 70 fer her) through the barrel.
We both had a lot of fun, but i discovered I need to work a lot on my shot. I got to the point where I didn't anticipate the shot as badly, but still shootin' a little low. Ammo is pricey, that's for sure. Next time, i'm keepin the target at five yards till i'm drillin' it in the middle, then i'll fool with movin' it further out.
Any other tips? even the most basic will help.

Always keep your focus on the front site and be sure to pull the trigger back nice and slow. Let the shot surprise you when it goes off. Shooting low is usually from anticipation of recoil. Keeping the 5 yard distance until you get used to it sounds like a good idea. Welcome to XDTalk.

Sight alignment, sight picture, trigger pull, and follow up.

Master these and a Jedi you will be.

Google them.

Go to the range without your wife. Women don't have the "male ego" to protect, and when your woman NATURALLY shoots better than you do, it affects your... aim.

Wait, I'm just talking about me and my fiancee... never mind.

I've heard that dry-firing practice helps....

I'm still a relative newb, but...

I've found recently that checking my target a little more often between magazines is benefitting me...being able to see how I just did and what adjustments I need to make is really helpful.
